Well yes I know he is an alien. What I mean is he supposed to look Asian? I always though he was white growing up but then I heard of the sh*tstorm that was caused by DB Evolution casting a white guy to play Goku. imo mercenary tao is an example of someone that is asian in the DB world. When compared to him Goku looks white. But then again for some reason anime has a tendancy to make asian characters look white. A good example of this would be Light from Death Note. But ya its not that big a deal to me its just that I want a more clearer picture of what Goku would look like in real life in my head. I mean he looks white to me but Im assuming hes supposed to be asian since anime heroes tend to be. Btw I didnt make this topic to enduce any sort of racism lol. Just wonder what people think. |

I tend to think of them being asian unless noted otherwise. For example everyone in Tenjho Tenge is asain except for Bob Makihara. Goku and Vegeta are asian in my eyes because it is simply a manga/anime made in Japan. I can totally understand someone thinking they are white though. |

All of the characters are asian in nature and name. The fact they look like white people is a problem with elf image the japanese have to deal with. Most of them in the belief that theyre people are descended from an ancient aryan tribe that lived in the ainu mountains. But logic and history dictates that the aryans were assimilated into asian indian culture. The characters have always looked asian to me, thats how the japanese draw asian looking people, dark hair, slanted eyes. But most of the time the hero usually looks white not the other way around. Blonde hair, blue eyes is the usual formula, been going on since starblazers and vultron, nothing new. |

I mean I know hes supposed to be asian but I will always think of him as being white. Not just because thats what I thought as a kid but he just looks white from the wide eyes to the skin coulor. The only thing Asian I see is the dark hair and dark eyes. Now DB Evolution was a TERRIBLE film but in my mind one of the only things they did right was the guy they casted as Goku. From the big childlike eyes to the face shape I thought he did look like Goku. I just cant picture an asian guy looking like Goku. I mean imagine if the guy who played Yamcha played Goku instead. He would look nothing like him, his skin would be to dark and he wouldnt have the big eyes that characterize Goku. Once again I know he is supposed to look asian but he really doesnt. Unless the Japanese see themselves that way. |

I guess how we view the characters in anime is left up to the eye of the beholder. Personally I believe that anime characters are Asian unless explicitly specified, but to you a white skinned male represents Goku in you mind. What ever floats your boat so to speak. |

I used to see him as european when I was younger simply because he talked in an american kinda accent and was on an american tv channel and didn't look like my idea of an east asian person but then again I didn't have a particular image or spectrum of east asian people really. And I never thought oh yes he's american or whatever I didn't exactly care or even think about it at all. Now when I watch it I think of him as asian yes, especially since he has an asian name, which is Chinese according to wikipedia. Also many characters have asian clothes and also asian customs a bit. I think of Goku as looking asian a bit but not actually being asian since he's saiyan. Bulma I think could be more like an american or something since she's from "West City" although I don't know if it's called that in the japanese dub for sure but I think it is. Also, she's from the city but really they all look like they could be from europe or east asia. Mainly it just comes down to which dub I'm watching but I still don't think about it the whole time. |

No need to be racist at all, its just a simple fact that the japanese make most of the protaganists in all of their cartoons look like white people and give them japanese names. Look at bleach, all of them japanese and live in japan, how many of them besides rukia look even slightly asian? none, why? i cant explain why, we can get psychological with it, but only the japanese know why they emulate whte people so much, as far as how they look and all, not the culture language or name change. Like i said, they usually always look white, nothing new. Thinking of goku as white is kind of weird considering he's an alien. thats like saying superman is white, how can he be a white man when he's kryptonian? not even human let alone white.

I don't see why Asians aren't called white either, their white too, right? In an anime like DBZ it's going to be hard to tell the difference between Caucasian and Asian people unless stated. All I know is that Bardock and King Vegeta sure didn't seem very Asian to me. Especially King Vegeta. Do you see many 6"+ hairy Asians around much? Or you can just say that their neither Caucasian or Asian because their from a different planet thus cannot be from neither Caucasian or Asian descent. |

If you watch Journey to the west, all the characters were Asian haha. I don't think any of the characters had a race though. They were probably just a whole separate race together. I could see Chichi as being latina though. She kinda looks like it Xd. |
